Norberg Voyage Tips and guide

Norberg is a town in northern Västmanland, Svealand, Sweden; close to the border of Dalarna. Norberg is a nice friendly little town with a lot of small enterprises and a lot of beautiful places to visit and experience. Norberg is close to nature with lots of possibilities, e.g. to hike in the summer and ski both downhill and cross-country in the winter.

The history of Norberg is dominated by working with iron and mining. The community dates back to the 12th century, and was Sweden's most important source of iron ore during the 14th century and ensuing centuries. Here, Engelbrekt, a freedom fighter, gathered the people and started an uprising in 1434. The mines and foundries characterise the community, and there is ample exciting evidence of the iron producing era. In the Middle Ages, Norberg became a focal point and a significant market town of the Bergslagen area. Along the Norberg river there are wooden houses dating from the 17th and 18th century.

Lapphyttan, dating to somewhere between 1150 and 1350, is considered the type site for the Medieval Blast Furnace. Part of Ekomuseum Bergslagen.  (updated Aug 2025)

• Engelbrektsloppet, an annual ski race, and a leg of the Swedish Classic Circuit.

• Abrahamsgården, Fagerstavägen 10-12, ☏ +46 223 208 30. A well known centre of handicraft in 18th century surroundings. Here pottery, glass, wood, textiles and the blacksmith’s works are shown. 

• 60.06457815.9233731 Elsa Andersons Konditori, Fagerstavägen 1, ☏ +46 223-200 49. Historic pastry-shop (known as a konditori in Swedish) which has been around since 1916. After the original 18th century building was destroyed by fire in 2015 it has been faithfully been reconstructed and period-accurate furniture has been gifted by volunteers.
