North Moscow Oblast is a region in Moscow Oblast.
Cities
[edit]- 1 Dmitrov — a large, old town, famous for its beautiful kremlin
- 2 Dubna — the region's northernmost town is young with an impressive history of prominent work in the sciences, especially in physics, and is home to the world's largest Lenin statue
- 3 Khimki — a mid-sized city with a prominent historical role in the Soviet aerospace industry, but its mostly just a satellite city for Moscow commuters
- 4 Klin — a small city best known as the former residence of Pyotr Ilich Tchaikovsky; the manor where he composed Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker is now a museum
- 5 Korolyov (Kaliningrad) — the "cradle of space exporation," and home to the house-museums of Lenin and Marina Tsvetaeva
- 6 Lobnya — a small city most famous for its apricot, neo-gothic 18th century Marfino Palace, but also for its other stately estates and old churches
- 7 Mytishchi — a fairly large city known for its 18th century aqueduct
- 8 Pushkino — this city served as the summer retreat for poets Baratynsky, Tyutchev, and Mayakovsky; museums remember the writers at Muranovo Estate and Mayakovsky's dacha
- 9 Sofrino
- 10 Sergiev Posad — home to the Trinity Monastery of Saint Sergius, the spiritual center of the Russian Orthodox Church
- 11 Shchyolkovo — a relatively large city to the northwest of Moscow on the Klyazma River
