- 1 Chanderi —The city is famous for its fort, ancient temples and mosques.
- 2 Datia —It is known for its rich Bundela Rajput history, significant temples like the Pitambara Peeth, and impressive architecture of Datia Palace.
- 3 Gwalior —It is famous for its majestic Gwalior Fort. It has numerous temples and palaces built in the early 16th century. The city can be enjoyed from the top of the hill. Many tourists come to see the numerous Jain Tirthankara statues carved in the rocks here.
- 4 Shivpuri —It is known for its dense forests, grand palaces and ancient temples. Shivpuri was once the summer capital of the Scindia rulers of Gwalior.
Other destinations
[edit]- 1 Madhav National Park — has forested hills and grasslands around Chandpatha (an artificial lake) that is home to a variety of deer, leopard and sloth bear. It provides a winter home for many migratory birds. Within the park stands the George Castle.
- 2 National Chambal Sanctuary —This national sanctuary is a protected area located on the Chambal River on the borders of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. It is a sanctuary established primarily to conserve the Indian gharial and the endangered Gangetic river dolphin.
- 3 Ghatigaon Wildlife Sanctuary —It is located about 30 kilometers west of Gwalior city. This sanctuary is known for protecting a wide variety of biodiversity. It was established in 1981 to protect habitat of the great Indian bustard (Ardeotis nigriceps). It is home to many other birds, as well as blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra), chital (Axis axis), wild boar, and striped hyena (Hyaena hyaena). Ghatigaon Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over an area of about 511 square kilometers.

The Chambal division covers the northernmost region of Madhya Pradesh. This division includes the districts of Morena, Bhind, and Sheopur. Important cities in Northern Madhya Pradesh include Gwalior, Shivpuri and Chanderi. Each place is filled with historical richness and natural beauty. Bhind district is the northernmost district of Madhya Pradesh. This district is located in the Chambal and Indus valleys, between the Kunwari and Pahuj rivers.
Get in
[edit]There are various ways to access the cities of Northern Madhya Pradesh. You can come from Gwalior to Chanderi or from Chanderi to Morena via Gwalior.
By plane
[edit]Gwalior Airport (GWL IATA) is located in the city of Gwalior. Gwalior Airport is also known as Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Terminal. This airport is 10 km from the city centre. It operates multiple flights with airlines such as SpiceJet, Alliance Air, and IndiGo from Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai.
Datia Airport was opened in 2025. It has two scheduled services: from Bhopal and Khajuraho.
Get around
[edit]In Datia city, you can use an auto or bicycle to travel around the Datia Palace and Pitambara Peeth area. If you have time, you can also walk. Auto or bike rickshaws can be used to travel around Gwalior Fort area.

[edit]The main places to visit in Gwalior include Gwalior Fort, Jai Vilas Palace, Gujri Mahal (which is also an archaeological museum), Man Mandir Palace, Tansen's Tomb, Koteshwar Temple, Sun Temple, etc. Tigra Dam is 23 km from Gwalior city. Boat trips are available there.

[edit]Chambal River Safari: Chambal River Safari is a wildlife viewing boat ride in the National Chambal Sanctuary. It provides tourists visiting the National Chambal Sanctuary with an opportunity to see the natural beauty of this sanctuary. Endangered gharials, various species of birds, dolphins, and other aquatic animals can be seen during boat rides. Taking a safari on the Chambal River is a popular activity. Many travel companies offer boat trips to the sanctuary.
Eat
[edit]Morena is widely known for its distinctive Gajak, a sweet dish made from sesame seeds and jaggery. It is also exported internationally.
Buy
[edit]Chanderi handwoven sarees are famous all over India. Chanderi sarees are made from three types of fabrics: pure silk, Chanderi cotton and silk cotton. It is one of the finest sarees in India and is known for its gold and silver brocade or lace, fine silk and rich embroidery.
