
Ochamchire or Ochamchira (Abkhaz: Очамчыра, Georgian: ოჩამჩირე) is a small coastal town in Abkhazia.

[edit]The town was founded around the 6th century BC (i.e. 2,600 years ago) by Greek colonists under the name of Gyenos.

Outside of the city
[edit]- 1 Mokvi Cathedral of the Assumption. Built in 10th century by the Abkhaz king Leon III.
- 2 Bedia Cathedral, village of Ilori. Built at the end of the 10th century in honor of Our Lady of Blachernae.
- 3 Ilori Church (The Church of St. George of Ilori). Built in 11th century, it is a major pilgrimage center for the residents of western Georgia and Abkhazia. The building has a single-nave design. Besides it operates up to nowadays.
