Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski is in Świętokrzyskie. The city formed part of the Old-Polish Industrial Region, the oldest industrial basin of the country.

Mining heritage

East of the town there are four historical sites related to mining, which together make up the world heritage site Krzemionki prehistoric striped flint mining region:
- 2 Krzemionki Opatowskie Mining Field. 09:00-16:00 (10:00-16:00 on Tuesdays), closed Mondays. Booking is essential. Tours are in Polish but you can download the audio-guide to your phone (corded headphones are provided). The tour starts in the museum, then proceeds underground.
