Pagar Alam is a scenic highland community in South Sumatra. Travelers come for the nature tourism that includes hikes on an active volcano called Mt. Dempo as well as visits to nearby lakes, waterfalls, and ancient archaeological sites with 1,000 year old stone sculptures. The hillsides are covered by large coffee and tea plantations.
