Paris is the seat of Logan County in the Ouachitas region of Arkansas. While possibly a little provincial and unremarkable in itself, it is a good staging point for visiting the Ouachita Mountains, particularly the tallest point in Arkansas, Mt. Magazine.
Get in
[edit]Get around
[edit]See
[edit]- 1 Eiffel Tower Park-Paris, 12 N Express St. In line with the town's namesake of Paris, France, a replica of the Eiffel Tower stands here in the downtown sector, though definitely not as tall as the real thing or even the replica in Paris, Tennessee.
- 2 Logan County "Old Jail" Museum, 202 N Vine St, ☏ +1 479 963-3936. Here is a local museum that is distinctive in being located in the city's jail and even more so that it has the town's former gallows on display.
Do
[edit]- 1 Cove Lake Recreation Area, 19 Cove Lake Loop, ☏ +1 479 963-6421. Opportunities for boating and swimming.
- 2 Mt. Magazine Scenic Byway. This highway, AR 309, is a nice Ouachita driving sampler, extending from Paris to Havana (the Arkansas municipalities, not the world capitals, mind you!).
- 3 Mount Magazine State Park, 577 Lodge Dr, ☏ +1 479 963-8502. Here feel the liberation as you ascend to Arkansas' highest point at 2753 feet, or try one of a number of hiking or biking trails or maybe even hang glide. Also be on the lookout for fauna such as bobcat, black bear, or Diana fritillary, the state butterfly.
Buy
[edit]Eat
[edit]- The Skycrest Restaurant, 577 Lodge Dr (inside The Lodge at Mount Magazine), ☏ +1 479 963-8502. Daily 7AM-8PM. Probably a bit overpriced for the buffet-style food, but, hey, you're paying for the view.

[edit]Try the campground at the aforementioned Cove Lake Recreation Area or Mount Magazine State Park, for a superb chance to commune with nature, or the Lodge At Mount Magazine within the park for a more upscale experience.
