Phobjikha is a valley in Wangdue Phodrang, Bhutan.

The valley is surrounded by stunning natural beauty, including expansive landscapes, verdant forests, and picturesque views of the Himalayas. It is a vast valley at an elevation of about 3,000 m (9,800 ft) on the west side by the Black Mountains (Bhutan) (range above 5,000 m (16,000 ft) elevation) that separates western and central Bhutan.

[edit]The average temperature is 8 °C (46 °F). The warmest month is July with 15 °C (59 °F) and the coldest is January with 0 °C (32 °F). The summers are wet with most rain falling between June and August during the monsoon season. The mean minimum temperature recorded in December is −4.8 °C (23.4 °F). The mean maximum temperature recorded in August is 19.9 °C (67.8 °F). The rainfall incidence varies from 1,472–2,189 mm (58.0–86.2 in).

[edit]1 Paro Airport (PBH IATA). is the country's sole international airport. The distance between Paro and Phobjikha Valley is 172 km.
By car
[edit]From Thimphu it takes about 5-6 hour to reach Phobjikha Valley along the scenic Wangdu-Tsirang Highway. The trail will take through stunning landscapes, dense forests, and picturesque villages.

- 1 Gangteng Monastery. It is an important monastery in the Nyingma sect of Buddhism and the main seat of the Pema Lingpa tradition.
- 2 Khewang Lhakhang (eastern side of Phobjikha Valley, opposite Tabiting). It is a small monastery said to have been established in the 15th century by Trulku Penjor Gyeltshen, a disciple of Longchen Rabjam.
- 3 Black-necked Crane Visitor Centre, Phobjikha Valley, Nubding, ☏ +9752442548. 9AM - 5PM. A dedicated space for learning about the black-necked cranes, with a wealth of information about the cranes, including their behavior, habitat, and conservation status.
Do
[edit]- Black-neck crane Festival. An annual festival is held in November to celebrate the return of the birds from their summer nesting grounds in Tibet. There is a US$50 attendance fee, which is used to fund local community projects. (Warning: due the black-neck crane's endangered species status and also because of the special position it holds in Bhutanese folk law, deliberately injuring a bird is a crime punishable by life imprisonment.)
- Phobjikha Valley trek is popular and takes three days to complete
