See
[edit]- 1 Plaça de la Vila is the main square, with Town Hall on its west flank. It's small and cluttered by parked vehicles and hoardings.
- Nostra Senyora de la Consolació, Plaça de l'Església (100 m east of main square), ☏ +34 971 647178. M, W & F 08:00-09:00, Tu & Th 17:30-18:30, Sa 19:00-20:00, Su 11:00-12:00, 20:00-21:00. Stonking great parish church, almost as big as Palma cathedral, built in fits and starts from 1666.
- 2 Oratori de Santa Creu was built in the 1820s and expanded during that century. In the Civil War Republican prisoners were tortured and murdered here, with 114 bodies so far recovered. The oratory is seldom open.
- 3 Santuario de Monti-Sion, off Ma-5030, Porreres, ☏ +34 609 635282. W-Su 17:30-23:30. Atop a hill south of town, the name indicates a monastic hermitage, but for most of its existence from circa 1500 it was a high school run by clergy. It lost that role when education was secularised in the 19th century, and from 1850 it housed a missionary society. It's now an upmarket restaurant and events venue in a charming old building. With luck you can ignore the hideous gravel pits eroding the hill just south.
- 4 Talaiot d'es Baulenes. 24 hr. A talayot is a prehistoric village. This one is 2 km down a bumpy lane, and you'll probably have it to yourself. Free.
- 5 Puig de Randa is a peak of 543 m above the tiny village of Randa. At its foot is the 15th century Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Gràcia, higher is the 14th century Santuario de Sant Honorat, and at the top is the 13th century Santuario Nuestra Señora de Cura.
