Understand
[edit]The Rewang people predominate Putao. It has the highest peak and the only snowfall in Southeast Asia.
Putao can be reached only by air. A hydro power project was constructed near Duk Dang Village by the KIO after a ceasefire agreement with the state peace and development council.
Get in
[edit]Putao is in a restricted area and it is usually only possible to visit by air and with a permit from MTT. Because of the ongoing Myanmar army action against the Kachin Independence Army, no permits were being issued to foreign nationals for travel to Putao (Nov 2012).
By plane
[edit]A handful of airlines fly to and from Myitkyina. It is possible to join an organised tour to Putao (the travel agency arranges the permits) and it is uncertain whether permits are issued to independent travellers.
