SL ferry line 80 Voyage Tips and guide

Public transport in Stockholm County includes some ferry lines. Line 80, previously called Sjövägen, is useful for visitors to the city, as it offers a great view of the Stockholm harbour year round, covered by the public transport ticket system.

Regular SL tickets are good on this line, in contrast to the commercial sightseeing ferries. A Visa or Mastercard chip can be used to buy a single ticket; 39 kr for adults as of 2022.

Various vessels are used for the line. The newest ferries are battery powered. Dogs and bicycles are allowed on board.

The line departs every 30 minutes; every 15 minutes during rush hour.

Djurgården is a park island known for its museums.

This museum displays the Vasa, an original warship built for the Thirty Years War which sank in Stockholm Harbour on its maiden voyage in 1628, during the heyday of the Swedish Empire. Salvaged in 1961, the ship is almost wholly preserved, and is the only one of its kind and quality in the world.  
• 59.3244518.1012 Skansen. Founded in 1891, Skansen is the world's oldest open-air museum, containing a zoo with Nordic fauna, such as moose, reindeer, bear, wolf, lynx and wolverine. It features over 150 historic buildings from previous centuries, relocated from all parts of Sweden.  
• 59.3218.1130563 Waldemarsudde. Prince Eugen (1865-1947), son of King Oscar II, was a revered artistic painter, and an avid art collector. His palace is now a museum housing his enormous art collection spanning the 1880-1940 period.

• 59.3223318.148664 Thiel Gallery (Thielska Galleriet), Sjötullsbacken 8. An art gallery known for its collection of Nordic painters at the border between romanticism and modernism, such as Carl Larsson, Bruno Liljefors, and Edvard Munch.  

Nacka is a maritime suburb. The ferry calls at Saltsjökvarn, Kvarnholmen and Nacka Strand. These places were industrial areas which have been re-developed into offices and housing.

• Elite Saltsjökvarn is a four-star hotel in a re-developed mill building, that dominates the area.

Lidingö is a suburban island.

• 59.341918.1246946 Frihamnen (Östermalm)). A former duty-free port that hosts much of Sweden's television industry, some of the Baltic Sea ferries, and international cruise boats cruising the Baltic Sea.

The northern leg of the line is less frequented. It serves the waterfront suburbs, as well as the Bogesund nature reserve.

• 59.37507518.0886898 Tranholmen. A small suburban island without bridges to the mainland. As the whole island is private property, there is not much to do here, except a walk along the pedestrian roads.

• 59.39692818.14064711 Storholmen. A small suburban island without bridges to the mainland. Most of the island is private property, but there are some small beaches, and a restaurant. In the middle of the island is a beautiful deserted mansion.

This is the end station, and the boat loops back to Storholmen and Lidingö.

The suburbs of Nacka, Lidingö and Danderyd are within the reach from the ferry, as well as the Bogesund nature reserve.
