[edit]Taxis and shared autos regularly ply from Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar), Rajpur Road, and other parts of Dehradun to Sahastradhara. A shared auto may cost ₹30–50 per person, while a private taxi could cost ₹300–500 one way.
By car
[edit]Sahastradhara is 12–16 km from the center of Dehradun and can be reached in 30–45 minutes by car. The road is scenic but narrow in places, especially during weekends and peak hours.
Get around
[edit]Sahastradhara is a small tourist area, and most attractions are within walking distance. Ropeway rides and short treks around the limestone cliffs are also popular. Local taxis or e-rickshaws can be hired for exploring nearby viewpoints and caves.
See
[edit]
- Sulphur springs. The main attraction is the natural sulphur water spring, known for its therapeutic properties. Visitors often dip their feet in the water or bathe in small man-made pools filled with the spring water.
- Robber’s Cave (Guchhupani) (6 km away). A natural cave formation where a river flows through a tunnel-like gorge. It’s a fun spot for wading through knee-deep water inside a narrow cave.

- Sahastradhara Ropeway. A ropeway takes visitors up the hill to the Top Tibba Viewpoint, offering a panoramic view of the valley and surrounding mountains. At the top, there’s a small amusement park and Sai Baba temple with swings and snack stalls.
- Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple. A famous cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva where water continuously drips on the Shivalinga from the cave roof.
- Local caves and waterfalls. Several smaller caves and seasonal waterfalls can be explored on foot around the Sahastradhara valley.
Buy
[edit]Small shops around the springs sell souvenirs, handicrafts, herbal products, and rudraksha malas. Visitors also purchase local honey, medicinal oils, and Dehradun's famous Basmati rice from stalls in the area.
Eat
[edit]Several small restaurants and food stalls offer North Indian snacks like maggi, momos, chaat, pakoras, and parathas. Many visitors enjoy corn (bhutta), fresh sugarcane juice, and cold drinks. Most places serve vegetarian food, and simple thali meals are also available.
Street food to try:
- Maggie
- Pakoda (vegetable fritters)
- Aloo tikki chaat
- Steamed momos
Drink
[edit]Cold drinks, packaged juice, and bottled water are widely available. Fresh lime soda and sugarcane juice are refreshing choices after a trek. As Sahastradhara is a family-friendly and spiritual destination, alcohol is not served in the local shops.
Sleep
[edit]While Sahastradhara itself has some small guest houses and lodges, most tourists prefer staying in Dehradun city, where a range of accommodations are available from budget hotels to luxury resorts.
Popular options:

- Hotel Pacific Dehradun – a mid-range option in the city.
- Four Points by Sheraton, Dehradun – a premium stay near Rajpur Road.
