    Samogitian (žemaitiu ruoda, žemaitiu kalba, or žemaitiu rokundais) is spoken in the Samogitian region of Lithuania. The language, which is considered a dialect by Lithuanian linguists, is closely related to Standard Lithuanian.

    Dialects

    There are three region dialects, which are mutually intelligible. The following phrasebook is based on the dialect spoken in Telšiai, or a Dounininkai dialect. Western dialect is almost extinct.
