Seongnam is a city in Gyeonggi Province, and it is one of the largest suburban cities around the Seoul.
Districts
[edit]Seongam has three administrative wards: Jungwon, Sujeong, and Bundang. However, it is practically divided into four areas: Seongnam Old Town, Bundang, Panyo, and Wirye.
Seongnam Old Town (Old Town) The old town includes Jungwon, and Sujeong. The area was developed in the 1960s and 1970s, and many people migrated from Seoul to the city. You can see many typical two-story red brick houses, and they form the old town's view distinct from Bundang and Pangyo. It has one of the largest traditional five-day markets, Moran Market. You can easily visit a UNESCO World Heritage site, Namhansanseong in the area.
Bundang (Bundang) This area was developed in the 1990s, and apartment building complexes were built along Seongnam-daero. You can see many well-organized parks and streams, and 90s-style apartment buildings and malls in this area.
Pangyo (Pangyo) This area was developed in the 2000s, and many tech companies, such as Kakao and NC Soft are headquartered. You can see cutting-edge business buildings and elegant shopping malls in this area.
Wirye (Wirye) This area was developed in the 2010s for apartment complexes. The area is shared by three cities: Seoul, Seongnam and Hanam, and it is located in the northwest of Seongnam.
Get in
[edit]By train
[edit]There is no directly liked to the city. You can get off at Suseo Station on the STR line or Seoul Station on the KTX line, and then transfer to the subway lines linked to the stations.
By subway
[edit]Seonganm has two three subway lines: Metro 8 Line, Bundang line, and New Bundang Line. The New Bundang Line directly links between Gangnam Station and Pangyo Station, but its charge is more expensive than two other lines.
By bus
[edit]If you want to visit Bundang or Pangyo from Seoul, taking express buses is also recommended. Becuase Wirye doesn't have a subway line crossing the area, you need to take a bus to get around the area.
By car

[edit]By subway
[edit]You can visit most places in the city by subway. Some places are not linked by the subway lines, and then you need to take a town shuttle bus.
By bus
[edit]The city has a convenient bus transport system. It is very convenient to use local map apps, such as Kakao Map or Naver Map to find bus routes. Local people prefer to take a bus when they move between the old town and Pangyo.
By taxi
[edit]You can take a taxi at a taxi stand, or hail one on the street. It is recommended to use local taxi hailing apps, such as Kakao T, because taxi drivers are not very likely to understand English or other foreign languages.
