    Shornur (Shoranur) is a small railway town in Palakkad District, Malabar, Kerala, India. Shornur is three kilometers from Kalamandalam, a cultural centre where the dance forms Kathakali and Koodiyattam are performed.

    Shornur is a major junction of the southern railways. The population is 42,000. Shornur is a popular location for the shooting of most Malayalam films because the beauty of the paddy fields and the palmyra trees makes Shornur far superior to any other part of Kerala. When you travel in the villages of Shornur towards the Palakkad side, you feel that nature has deliberately created a background where infinite number of films can be made.

    Shornur can be reached by train from anywhere in India. Shornur is the busiest junction of Southern Railway. Buses are also available from Thrissur, Kozhikode and Palakkad. The nearest airports are at Coimbatore, Kozhikode and Kochi.
