Skagafjordur is a municipality in North Iceland. It comprises of town of Sauðárkrókur, the villages of Hofsós and Varmahlíð and several rural districts. It also includes the historic cathedral site of Hólar which is the site of a growing university today.

Skagafjörður can be reached from anywhere in the country from road one. Bus 57 links the munciplity with Reykjavík, arriving both in Sauðárkrókur and Varmarhlíð. Taking a plane here is not advisable as the nearest airport with regular service is in Akureyri, 94 kilometers away from Varmarhlíð.

The town of Varmarhlíð is an entry point into the muncipality. From there road 75 can be taken to Sauðárkrókur or road 76 to Hofsós. In order to get to Hólar road 76 and road 767 are taken. Bus 57 can be taken between Varmarhlíð and Sauðárkrókur, but the other towns do not have any bus service. When travelling whithin any of the towns walking is recommended as the longest walking distance is 3.2 km.
