Location & Key Facts
[edit]Skočidevojka Bay is a secret beach below the small village called Skočidevojka. It is a quiet beach cozily nested in between Petrovac and Sveti Stefan, located in the southwest of Montenegro. The absolute best month to visit this unique place in Montenegro is September because the sea is still warm but the weather is not as hot as opposed to July or August. Even in the winter, this small beach doesn’t stop being wonderful. Whatever time of year you go to this beach, it won’t be too hot, or too cold.
Description
[edit]
When you first arrive, you see a thick, square, stone plate that says “444 stairs”. If you look a bit further, you can see the faraway sea glistening with a beautiful, deep blue color. When you begin your journey through the stairs, you start seeing the beach itself. It is surrounded by rocks and trees. There is a slight breeze going through your hair. You feel like you are on the doorstep of paradise! You continue walking until you have reached your destination: Skočidevojka Bay!
What Makes It Unique?
[edit]It is very likely that you or any other traveler that reads this would not choose this destination over anywhere else in the world but even if you won’t, down below are the things that make this beach so special and unique:
If you love hiking and swimming in the sea or want to do both, Skočidevojka Bay is the place for you! Going down 444 stairs would take you around thirty minutes which may seem like a small hike. The steps are pretty steep to make you tired easily so going up will take more time and more breaks but that way you have more moments to take pictures and make memories. I call this beach secret because very few people know about it. From all of the times I have been in Skočidevojka Bay I have seen about three people. The last reason I find this secret beach unique is because the view from the stairs is mind blowing!

Plants & Animals
[edit]When you walk down the steps you should keep your nose on the ready for the smell of pine trees because you’ll be surrounded by them. You should definitely take that snorkeling mask with you when you get down to the rocky beach and get into the water to clearly see the fish swimming by, or the harmless tiny crabs walking around on the sand. If you are brave enough, you can go further into the water where the bottom gets darker and darker, where you can see the sea urchins on the big rocks below your feet. But reader beware: don't try to dive down to see them more clearly or they might spread their quills out to defend themselves!
Fun Activities to Do
[edit]Now that we’ve all had enough of the scary and dark bottom of the ocean and of the quills of the sea urchins, let’s dive into the fun activities you can do at the secret beach of Skočidevojka! Even before you arrive at the beach you already have a fun activity to do: hiking! Going up 444 steps is a great exercise and… it’s fun! Also, you have probably already guessed this, you can enjoy a nice swim. Another thing to do is to dive and see the things under the sea close up. I hope you brought your sunscreen because another relaxing thing to do in Skočidevojka Bay is sunbathing! And last but not least, the secret beach is surrounded by rocks and it's fun to climb around.

Places To Eat
[edit]Since this is a very secret place, many locals don't even know about it. This is why there are no restaurants or beach bars there yet. Therefore, you should bring some food, drinks, snacks and make your own cozy picnic on the rocks!
My Experience
[edit]I remember going to this beach the first time. We looked on the internet for a beach we could go and spend a relaxing day in. We found Skočidevojka Bay and decided to go there. Google Maps led us to a road that was probably decent a few years ago but not then. When we came close to the beach we saw that the road was overgrown with all types of plants, it was like a jungle! We got out of the car and decided to walk the remaining distance to the beach. The rest of the day was so relaxing and quiet. We saw the stairs at the end of the day and decided next time to park somewhere up and go down by the steps. This is what we do to this day.
