Sort is the historic center of Pallars County. It features the remains of the count's castle, as well as numerous medieval vestiges that help to show the historical role that Pallars played in the history of Catalonia (such as the double-headed eagle on its coat of arms). There are many Romanesque churches, castles and walled towns and villages in this part of Pallars.

The town of Sort has been documented since 947, in a donation by Count Isarn I of Pallars, his wife Adelaida and their son Guillem to the Abbot of Santa Maria de Gerri.

There is a bus line to Barcelona El Prat Airport

you can take Line RL2 until La Pobla de Segur, and then a bus to Sort.

Originally tied to the Counts of Pallars, the castle played a significant role in regional history, serving as a fortification, palace, and prison. Architectural elements include Romanesque walls with cylindrical towers and Gothic features like a portal and windows. It was abandoned after a 17th-century fire and later repurposed as a cemetery. Since 1992, archaeological and restoration efforts have been undertaken to preserve its legacy. The site spans 1,934 m² at an altitude of 710 meters (updated Mar 2025)

• Girella:It is a sausage made with various parts of lamb, rice, eggs, garlic, parsley, saffron, pepper and salt. It is usually eaten for dinner, fried, cut into slices.
• Filiberto:A dessert made with cream, yogurt and currant ice cream.
• Facit de Carnaval:It is a sausage that is prepared by filling the stomach of a pig with head meat, jowls, bacon, bread, eggs, raisins, rice, garlic, pepper and parsley. It has a pronounced and intense taste. It is available during Carnival time.
