    Churches

    [edit]
    • 6 Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian, Cosmae-Kirchhof. The St. Cosmae Church , together with St. Wilhadi, still shapes the image of the city of Stade today. The name of the church was first mentioned in 1132 in the foundation charter of the Premonstratensian monastery of St. George. St. Cosmae has been an Evangelical Lutheran church since 1529. The main altar was created by the Hamburg sculptor Christian Precht in 1674-77. The church's highlight is the baroque organ built in 1668-75 by the Glückstadt organ builder Berendt Huß, which was completed by his highly talented journeyman and younger cousin Arp Schnitger. Due to building regulations, climbing the church tower is only possible in groups of max. 12 people under the guidance of a tower guide. • 7 St. Wilhadi, Wilhadi-Kirchhof. The slightly overhanging, massive, square west tower of St. Wilhadi Church is popularly known as the "leaning tower of Stade". The current three-aisled Gothic hall church dates from the 14th century. The oldest part of St. Wilhadi Church is probably the west tower, which stylistically indicates that it was built in the late 13th century. But despite all adversities, the most important cultural and historical treasure today is an organ. It was built between 1731 and 1736 by the master Erasmus Bielfeldt, who was probably born in Stade and trained under Schnitger's student Matthias Dropa in Lüneburg. After the restoration of the organ by Jürgen Ahrend in 1990, it now has its historical sound again. The interior of the church was restored in 1958-60 and 1991, and part of the old ceiling painting was also restored. St. Wilhadi was built in 1529, twelve years after the death of the Duke of Brandenburg. Luther's posting of his theses in Wittenberg. St. Wilhadi (Q1425228) on Wikidata
    • 8 Heilig-Geist-Kirche, Timm-Kröger-Str. 16. Built in 1959/60 and consecrated on the second day of Pentecost 1960 by the auxiliary bishop of Hildesheim, Heinrich Pachowiak. The interior was redesigned in 1985 and adapted to the requirements of the post-conciliar liturgical reform. The artistic design was in the hands of the sculptor Josef Baron from Unna. The focal point is the round altar, which was placed far into the middle of the church, i.e. exactly under the peak of the tent roof. The latticework of the altar's rear wall with the tabernacle takes up the shape of the medal several times. The tabernacle itself is the focal point of the bronze relief, externally highlighted by the brightly polished bronze. The baptismal font, like the other works of art, is made of bronze and also has its place in the chancel. The organ (1988) from the workshop of the Hillebrand brothers from Isernhagen near Hanover has 23 registers and around 1500 pipes. Heilig-Geist-Kirche (Stade) (Q1594884) on Wikidata
