Rollback

[edit]

I just rolled back the most recent edits by User:82.3.96.145, because the content was copied from Wikitravel (legal but strongly discouraged for obvious reasons) and copyrighted websites (illegal). ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 18:01, 4 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Encapsulating "See"

[edit]

Lots of content was added to the "See" section. It feels to me like it's way too long now. Would it be best to keep all the paragraphs in the beginning of the section but greatly reduce their lengths, or should some of those that were added be removed? And maybe even more importantly, I can't support subsections on numerous museums, festivals and castles: we need an overview, not an overly long article that few will want to read through. If the star-rated article on Bali can summarize its sights in a compact "See" section, I can't think of any reason why the equivalent section in the England article has to go on and on. I agree. Let's focus on travel information and not load up too much on background information. Ground Zero (talk) 16:15, 20 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi, guys! I concur, I will reduce the text I included yesterday. I apologize for this; I am currently elevating the scope and making comparisons with other pages, and you are absolutely correct. I will ensure that all my text is condensed & won't make new changes going forward. The only changes I'll make is trimming all the text I added. All the best. 2A0A:EF40:E1C:EB01:2D59:52E7:BC27:C3B7 20:34, 20 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
About these edits: What if anything should we keep? Is there anything in the "Internet" subsection that doesn't apply to other countries of the UK? I would suppose that at least the sections on phoning and post could be reverted entirely. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:23, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
I deleted most of it. Is there anything England-specific about the Postcodes subsection? I'm guessing not, in which case, it should be deleted or moved to United Kingdom#Connect. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:15, 14 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
If we had an article on postcodes, there are some London specific aspects, but what we have is general to the UK. UK postcodes are covered in United_Kingdom#Addresses_and_postcodes, which I think explains it better. So maybe just delete what we have here. Longer term, I think we should cover postcodes in National Grid (Britain), as these days you are more likely to be given a postcode than a grid reference. Too many photos

[edit]

A lot of new photos gave been added to this article, which is already well illustrated. I remind contributors of Wikivoyage:Image policy, which says, "Don't get overexcited adding images to articles. Travellers may be using Wikivoyage from networks with low bandwidth, or with a cost for every MB used."

In the last 6 weeks, the number of photos have greater from a large 43 photos, to 54 photos. While we don't have fixed limits on how many photos there can be per article, I think this article needs to be cut back. Ground Zero (talk) 00:36, 14 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

I agree – see, do and drink in particular. //shb (t | c | m) 01:10, 14 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I've wondered whether all of the additions were needed and when they would end, so I agree with you. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:11, 14 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
When you compare this page to those of the United States, Denmark, Spain, France, Russia, and others, the images are fine. I really don't believe there are too many images here. Since it's a travel guide, some people prefer having images to illustrate what the text is discussing. Artandpomp (talk) 23:18, 14 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Alright, I have second thoughts on this, and did remove a few images from the guide. Artandpomp (talk) 00:46, 15 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Artandpomp: Awesome, this looks a lot better! Thanks :). //shb (t | c | m) 07:00, 15 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
