Broken routebox code
[edit]Does the routebox on this page look correct? Even if it does, the code behind it is broken. There are 3 visible blocks, but the source code has 4 blocks - with the various elements within each block numbered 1, 2, 3, 1. Some elements in the first block are overwritten by those in the last block, and others are not. -- 89.241.66.102 19:57, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- I just changed the ones of the fourth block to fours, assuming the block was copied from elsewhere and edited to suite (or moved down for a "correct" order), but without changing the number. I often make such mistakes when editing routeboxes. There may of course be other problems as well, so please check if you know the area. –LPfi (talk) 09:00, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- I tried that, but there's now an "end" in the middle, and Elgin has moved from the top to the bottom, and I have no idea whether the depicted road layout is correct, so I didn't save the changes. -- 89.241.66.102 09:10, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- The order of the roads should depend on their importance (and might often be somewhat arbitrary). They appear in the order determined by the number, so when changing 1 to 4, Elgin gets last, and if road 150 ends in Sandusky, it should have the END, regardless of where it is placed. I assume one should change the 2s of road 6 to 3s, the 3s of road 150 to 4s and the 4s of Elgin to 2s, to get numerical order, but as I don't know the U.S. road numbering system – and the order is a minor detail anyhow – I didn't do that. A priori, I would trust the layout of the blocks to be correct and any inconsistency to be caused by typos in the parameters, as the blocks are easy to grasp while editing the wikicode. –LPfi (talk) 10:59, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- I hadn't appreciated the 2, 6 and 150 were road numbers, so I was confused at what I was looking at. I was picturing this as depicting one road with the various turnings off it.
- I now see this is showing three separate roads and a railway! I was in the middle of multiple other things at the time of noticing the broken code, and allocated near-zero brain power to looking at it.
- Many thanks for the fixes. -- 89.241.66.102 13:48, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
