- You are right: "West England" is neither a term in general use nor a recognizable entity. Note, however, that "the West Country" is not an official description: for me it covers Dorset, Somerset, Devon, and Cornwall. Whether it includes all of Gloucestershire (though I feel it did include all of the former county of Avon, centred on Bristol) and Wiltshire (in particular, Salisbury) is, I feel, rather more debatable... -- (WT-en) Picapica 20:43, 23 Jun 2005 (EDT)
The Map is now out of date due to the fact that Avon no longer exists. The correct areas should include:
Gloucestershire County, South Gloucestershire District, Bristol City, Bath and North East Somerset District, North Somerset District, Somerset County,
Will try to do some work on it.
Colour coded map?
[edit]The colour coded map is rather... blue. Is this by design? I can't easily match each region description to its corresponding map location. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 06:11, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah, definitely too blue. This should be changed to colors that are more easily identifiable. Usability should always trump cutesy-ness. Texugo (talk) 11:31, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
- All the England region maps follow the same style: different shades of the same colour for the different counties. I completely agree that it isn't the best way to go about making them legible. Particularly bad offenders as well as this one: East Midlands, West Midlands and North West England. The Yorkshire map is bad for a different reason, in that there are too many different splodges of colour to make any sense of what's what. The other regions' maps aren't so bad. Unfortunately, in my case, all I can do is criticise because I don't have the skills or the software to do any better.
- Best, --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 17:31, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
- I didn't realise that all UK maps have this issue! Seems like an obvious area for improvement, since it makes the guide less useful for those with poor eyesight / colour blindness.
- I have the skills, just time is not abundant right now. In any case I'll raise this at a country level --Andrewssi2 (talk) 01:39, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Good move --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 19:12, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
Static map
[edit]@ThunderingTyphoons!: Noticed you removed the dynamic map in favor of the static one. Thought I'd point out, in case you didn't notice, that the Isles of Scilly are a separate region in the article, but not on the static map. The dynamic map didn't have this right, either, but it would be, of course, a faster fix on that one. Either way, someone should probably put a map request; I'll do it unless you think the Isles are better off not being separate. ARR8 (talk) 17:02, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
- To be honest, I don't see why Isles of Scilly wouldn't be part of Cornwall. But that's a separate discussion, so please go ahead and make that request. Thank you for spotting it :-) --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 17:04, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
