The South Coast of Tamil Nadu consists of Karaikal, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts. It is home to Thanjavur, once the capital of the Chola Empire and Rameswaram, one of the Hindu religious char dham (four abodes) sites.
