Tlemcen is a city in Northwest Algeria, and the capital of the province of the same name.

[edit]Close to the Moroccan border, the city has developed leather, carpet, and textile industries, which it ships to the port of Rashgun for export. It had a population of 140,158 at the time of the 2008 census, while the province had 949,135 inhabitants.

[edit]- 1 El Mechouar Palace. This royal palace was built in 1248 to serve as the official residence for the Ziyanid sultans. Its complex is a perfect representation of Moorish and Andalusian art.
- 2 Sidi Boumediene Mosque. Known as the Worshipper's Mosque, this complex contains several religious buildings, including a mosque, a mausoleum, a hamam, and a madrasa where Ibn Khaldun taught once.
