Tumauini is a municipality in Isabela. It is to the north of the provincial capital, Ilagan
Understand
[edit]Tumauini was officially established by the Spanish in the 18th century, although a mission existed in what is now Barangay Pilitan from 1598 until its destruction in an uprising in 1621. It briefly became a temporary capital of the newly-established province of Isabela in the 1850s before it moved to neighboring Ilagan.
Talk
[edit]Tumauini is more or less evenly divided between Ibanag and Ilocano speakers, although most residents will understand Tagalog.
Get in
[edit]Tumauini is along the Maharlika Highway to Tuguegarao, and there are buses passing here generally every hour all day. The main bus stops are at XentroMall and Shell Gas Station, where a junction leads to Delfin Albano.
Tumauini is also serviced by passenger vans plying the Tuguegarao-Santiago route. The main van stops are shared with the bus stops above.
Secondary provincial roads connect Tumauini with Ilagan and Mallig (and hence to Roxas) via Delfin Albano.
Get around
[edit]Tricycles are the main form of transport. Fares start at P20. To reach the barangays west of the Cagayan River (Paragu and Pilitan), make a detour through Delfin Albano.
