Uga is in Anambra State in South East Nigeria. It is a town in Aguata Local government area, 13 km south east of Igbo-Ukwu, 12 km south of Ekwulobia, and 45 km south of Awka, the state capital of Anambra. It has four communities namely: Umueze, Oka, Umuoru and Awarasi.

History

Uga’s history is held in family memories and town stories. Founding ancestors settled where the land was good and safe. Over time the four villages which are Umueze, Awarasi, Umuoru and Oka formed, each with its kindreds and family heads. Uga grew as a trading point because of its position on routes between other towns.It has recognised landmarks and tourist attractions such as the "Obizi Uga", a natural spring and a spectacular scenery which was the site of an ancient tale in the Uga oral tradition. Uga is the site of an annual traditional celebration known as the "OBUOFOR" festival held every 26 December. Uga has one of the largest markets in the Aguata local government area known as "ORIE" which supports the economic activities of the local community and other surrounding towns.

In Uga, the dry season is muggy and partly cloudy, and the temperature is warm all year round. The wet season is oppressive and overcast. The average annual temperature ranges from 65 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit; it rarely falls below 58 or rises above 89.

Anambra International Cargo Airport also known as Chinnua Achebe International Airport (CAICA). The airport is at Ivite-Umueri, Umueri Anambra State.

By road

There are various entry points by road. From the main Garage of Onitsha you can board Ekwulobia Urban Mass Transit, from Onitsha or at Awka Garage at Unizik junction also you can get a bus from Eke-Awka market, and starting from ₦3000 you can get a vehicle into the town, but that depends on where you are coming from.

Uga is made up of numerous notable schools including the secondary school attended by the incumbent governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Uga boys secondary school. The school is known to have produced number of elite people in the society today.

  • The Obuofor Festival is one of Uga's most important cultural events, commemorating the community's resilience in maintaining their indigenous belief system despite the influence of Christianity. This festival is a reminder of the struggles faced by the people of Uga in defending their traditions during the early 20th century, particularly in 1910.
