Understand
[edit | edit source]In 1891, the northern main railway got a station 4 kilometres from the village of Vännäs, and a new settlement known as Vännäs grew around the station. To avoid confusion, the old village was renamed Spöland and now Vännäsby. In 1896, a rail connection to Umeå was made.
