[edit]Wa-dong is a neighborhood located in Danwon-gu, Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. It is situated near Gwangdeoksan Mountain and is an area where urban and rural environments coexist. The area includes several sports facilities such as a sports park, a driver's license test center, a soccer field, badminton courts, and basketball courts. The Hwajeongcheon Stream flows along the eastern side, and a mountain divides some parts, affecting the connectivity of residential areas.
The name "Wa-dong" originates from "Wagol," a village known for tile baking. In the past, floods caused parts of the Gwangdeoksan mountain ridge to collapse, burying parts of the village, and later, most of the area was developed into residential land during new town development.
Wa-dong mostly consists of multi-family and single-family houses, with many tenants. The area faces issues like commercial stagnation and the need for redevelopment.
Wa-dong also has cultural assets such as Sasechungnyeolmun. Wa-dong First Park is an urban neighborhood park designed for residents' leisure and physical training.
