Wolpi-dong is a dong located in Sangnok-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do. It is the gateway to the northeast of the city located on a flat part of the Ansan Stream coast, and is a combined urban and rural area. The original name was 入陂, located on a hillside. In the Joseon Dynasty, it was said to be 'one rice paddy line (Nongok-dong rice paddy line in Siheung-si), two rice paddy lines', so it was a famous village in Ansan-gun. The name originated from this village.
Understand
[edit]Since ancient times, the area of Wolpi-dong has been called Dariphi, which means 'the hill on which the moon rises', and if it is changed to Chinese characters, it becomes Wolipi (monthly 入陂), which was reduced to Wolpi (monthly 陂).
