[edit]- 1 Chillingham Castle (6 mi (9.7 km) southeast of Wooler). Mid-Apr - late Oct 11AM-5PM. The castle was built in the 12th century as a monastery, and had one of the first glass windows installed in 1298 for a visit by King Edward 1. The castle was well fortified in medieval times, as it was close to the Scottish border. Following the Union of the Crowns in 1617 the castle became more residential. Book well in advance to stay in one of the self catering apartments. Occasional 2 or 4 hour ghost tours are run at night. £14.
- 2 St Ninian's Catholic Church, Burnhouse Road. Snecked stone church which opened in 1856.

[edit]- 1 Humbleton Hill. remains of an iron age hillfort and 20 roundhouses, also the site of the Battle of Homildon Hill in 1402 between English and Scottish armies.
- 2 Walk the St Cuthbert's Way. This 100 km (62 mi) path from Melrose to Lindisfarne passes through Wooler.
- 3 Chillingham wild cattle. Easter - October tours at 10.00AM, 11.30AM, 1.45PM and 3.15PM. See these unique wild cattle on a tour. You can only see the cattle on a pre-booked tour, for which you must wear boots or shoes. £12, combined tickets with castle available.
