Wulong is a district in Chongqing Municipality outside the central urban area. Wulong is famous of its limestone karst structures, several of which form part of the South China Karst World Heritage Site.

[edit]- 1 Wulong Xiannüshan Airport (武隆仙女山机场), Fairy Mountain National Forest Park (仙女山国家森林公园), ☏ +86 23 77904222. A small airport with a limited number of flights. Many flights appear to operate on a seasonal basis only.

By train

- 2 Wulong Railway Station (武隆站), Country Highway 002, Furong Subdistrict (芙蓉街道002乡道) (bus nos. 102, 103, 105, 201 and 206). This is Wulong’s old railway station and only serves regular-speed trains. Trains from Chongqing North Railway Station in central Chongqing take about 2 to 3 hours to reach this station.
- 3 Wulong South Railway Station (武隆南站), Longhu Road, Fengshan Subdistrict (凤山街道龙湖路) (bus nos. 201, 205, 206 and the Fairy Mountain Star Tourist Bus). Opened in 2025, this is Wulong’s newest railway station. The station is on the new high-speed railway line that connects central Chongqing to Qianjiang. Trains from Chongqing East Railway Station in central Chongqing take just 40 to 50 minutes to reach this station. You can also get a train here from Chongqing North Railway Station, Chongqing West Railway Station or Jiangbei Airport Station. However, trains from those other stations take about an hour longer to get here.

- 5 Xiannüshan Tourist Center (仙女山游客中心, Fairy Mountain Visitor Center), 32 Yinxing Avenue (银杏大道32号), ☏ +86 23 77744555. Buses arrive here daily from central Chongqing (Chengjiaping Bus Station and the Liberation Monument are the main departure points). Upon arrival, you may purchase tickets to the scenic areas as well as tickets for the shuttle buses. Shuttle buses are available to Fairy Mountain National Forest Park, the Three Natural Bridges and the Longshuixia Fissure Gorge. There are, however, no shuttle buses to Furong Cave.

Get around
[edit]The Fairy Mountain Star Tourist Bus (仙女山星旅游专线) runs between Wulong South Railway Station and the Fairy Mountain National Forest Park with intermediate stops in the Wulong urban area and the Fairy Mountain National Tourist Resort. The first bus leaves at 7:00 and the last bus leaves at 20:00. The full fare is ¥10.

- 2 Furong Cave (芙蓉洞), Jiangkou Town (江口镇) (take bus no. 201 to the Jiangkou Police Station, then walk 2 km from there to the Furong Cave Tourist Center), toll-free: +86 4000235666. 08:30-16:30. Tickets are ¥150 including the cable car ride.
- 3 Longshuixia Fissure Gorge (龙水峡地缝), Country Highway 787, Xiannüshan Town (仙女山镇787乡道) (take a shuttle bus from either the Fairy Mountain Tourist Center or the shuttle bus stop near the exit of the Three Natural Bridges Scenic Area), toll-free: +86 4000235666. Tickets are ¥105 including shuttle bus and elevator.

- 4 Three Natural Bridges (天生三桥), Xiannüshan Subdistrict (仙女山街道) (take the shuttle bus from the Fairy Mountain Tourist Center), toll-free: +86 4000235666. 08:30-16:30. A series of natural limestone bridges. They lie within the Wulong Karst National Geology Park, itself a part of the South China Karst-Wulong Karst UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Chinese, the bridges are all named after dragons, namely the Tianglong (天龙桥, Sky Dragon), Qinglong (Azure Dragon) and Heilong (黑龙桥, Black Dragon) bridges. Among others attractions, there is an adrenaline via ferrata along a water channel embedded in a rock cliff (nearby "Pulled Rock Village"). Tickets are ¥95 during low season (November to March) and ¥155 during peak season (April to October); the price includes the shuttle bus and the Tianlong Elevator.

[edit]- 1 Hiking on Fairy Mountain (Fairy Mountain hiking), Fairy Mountain National Forest Park (take a tourist shuttle bus from Xianshan Town). 07:00–18:00. Gentle grassland trails and dense forests suitable for easy to moderate hikes. Winter snow scenery attracts local tourists for photography and snow play. Free.

- Rafting on Wujiang River (乌江画廊漂流), Wujiang River Gorge (local agencies offer shuttle to rafting departure point). Summer only (June-September). cenic raft trip through karst canyon cliffs. Expect splashes — waterproof cover recommended.

Buy
[edit]- Local Black Goat Products (武隆黑山羊产品), town center markets and souvenir shops. Black goat is a regional specialty of Wulong. Vacuum-packed goat jerky or preserved slices are popular take-home gifts. Check expiration date for travel.
- Rock Tea & Mountain Herbal Tea (武隆高山茶、岩茶), Fairy Mountain shops and Wulong market. Tea grown in the cool karst mountain environment has a fresh and slightly floral fragrance. Great local gift that travels well.
- Dried bamboo shoots (干竹笋), Farm produce stores in town. Bamboo is abundant in the region; dried bamboo shoots are easy to pack and suit many Chinese dishes.

- 2 Wuji Lamb Restaurant (吴记鲜羊府), Basement 1, Wulong Commercial Building, No. 6 Baiyang Road, Furong Street. 10:00–21:30. This local restaurant specializes in fresh lamb dishes. ¥40–120.

- 3 Yiji Mountain Mushroom Soup & BBQ (易记山珍菌王汤·烤肉·酱大骨), Fairy Mountain Town Ginkgo Avenue. 09:00–20:30. Restaurants serving local delicacies are common around Fairy Mountain, specializing in mushrooms, farm-style dishes, and barbecue. ¥50–150.

- 4 Wang's Fairy Mountain Fatty Intestine Fish Main Store (王氏仙女山肥肠鱼总店), No. 30-1, Ginkgo Avenue (ground floor shops along Qise Tianjie street). With "Fatty Intestine Fish" as its signature dish—a combination of fatty intestines and local river fish or other fish, in Sichuan/Chongqing style, it also offers local farmhouse-style dishes. ¥57.

- 5 Good Stove Firewood Chicken (好灶头柴火鸡), No. 69, Furong Middle Road, Furong Street, Units 1-12. 09:00-21:00. It mainly offers Sichuan and Chongqing style dishes such as firewood-cooked chicken and home-style cooking. The environment is typical of casual restaurants, with dine-in as the primary option. The dishes are generally spicy and strongly flavored, reflecting local culinary characteristics. ¥41.

- 2 Wulong Riverside Tea House (武隆江畔茶馆), Located on the banks of the Wulong River (From the bus/train station, walk or take a local taxi to the riverside area (river view/riverside promenade).
