    Yakurr was created out of the Obubra LGA in 1987 and it shares a boundary with Abi, Obubra, Biase and Akamkpa Local Government Areas of Cross River State, Nigeria. It is composed of 13 wards and is inhabited by the Agoi, Ibami Assign, Mkpani, Ekon, Nko Ugep and Idomi people with the dominant language being Yakurr.

    Ekori is a community within Yakurr council area.

    Though situated in the tropical zone, a higher altitude means that Yakurr State has a near temperate climate with an average temperature of between 13 and 22 °C. Harmattan winds cause the coldest weather between December and February. The warmest temperatures usually occur in the dry season months of March and April.
