    Understand

    [edit]
    Position of the city

Yangju has a population of about 280,000. The city is divided into five administrative districts: Baekseok-eup, Gwangjeok-myeon, Nam-myeon, Eunhyeon-myeon, Jangheung-myeon. Yangju has a very wide range of military facilities, and the Armed Forces Yangju Hospital is located here.

Yangju-si is in the central and northern parts of Gyeonggi-do, reaching 20 km from east to west and 30 km from north to south. In general, there are few flatlands due to the large number of mountains, and flatlands are scattered along rivers flowing west, south and north.

    History

    [edit]

As a result of the conquest of King Gwanggaeto, Goguryeo placed Yangju as Maeseong-gun (買省郡), and it was later reorganized into Naeso-gun (來蘇郡) and Hanyang-gun during the reign of King Gyeongdeok of Unified Silla.

During the reign of King Taejo of Goryeo, Naeso-gun was changed to Gyeonju-gun (見州郡) and Hanyang-gun was changed to Yangju. In 983, 12 mok were built and Yangju-mok (楊州牧) was built, when an administrative district was created centering on Hanyang-gun. The name Yangju was designated as 'Yangju (楊州)' by King Hyeonjong of Goryeo in 1018, calling it "Willow village"

Yangju originally came from the name of Hanyang-gun, now northern Seoul, during the reign of King Taejo of the Joseon Dynasty.

In 2003, it was promoted from Yangju-gun to Yangju-si. Yangju City is the origin of Jungnangcheon Stream, a tributary of the Han River, and Sincheon Stream, a tributary of the Imjin River, and is home to Dobongsan Mountain and Gamaksan Mountain, which are among the top 100 famous mountains in Korea due to their beautiful natural scenery. It is known as a daily living tourist destination in the metropolitan area due to its large number of valleys and reservoirs such as Jangheung, Ilyeong, Songchu, and Kisan. In addition, new cultural tourism such as Jangheung Art Valley, Songam observatory, and Jangheung Arboretum is also in the spotlight. Yangju-si was briefly transferred to Yangju during the Goryeo Dynasty because it was called a famous place in the theory of feng shui geography after the Goryeo Dynasty, and during the Joseon Dynasty, tombs such as Donggureung, Onneung, Sarung, Hongneung, Yureung, Gwangneung, and Taereung were established in the Yangju area at the time.

Most of Yangju City is highly dependent on Uijeongbu City, the central city in the northern part of Gyeonggi Province.

    By taxi

    [edit]

Yangju is one of the cities where taxi fares are relatively expensive, and it is not easy to catch a taxi even if you use the application.

    By bus

    [edit]

Yangju has a comprehensive local bus system that connects various neighborhoods and attractions.

    Bicycle

    [edit]

Yangju has some dedicated cycling paths, especially near nature parks and river areas. Renting bicycles is an option at some parks.
