Ypäjä is a town and municipality in Tavastia Proper.

[edit | edit source]The Ypäjä region has been associated with horses for a long time, for example horses for the military and other government branches were bred here already in the 19th century. There's a trade school where students learn horse management or become riding teachers. For short term visitors, there's a museum presenting equestrianism.

By car
[edit | edit source]Highway 10 connecting Turku to Forssa and Hämeenlinna goes through the south of the municipality. Regional road 213 connect from there to Ypäjä town, and continues to Loimaa.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Finnish museum of horse racing (Suomen hevosurheilumuseo), Kerhotie 11, ☏ +358 2 548-0005. F Sa 10:00–16:00. Though humble, there is a large history inside, with a show and the attraction of a cavalry exhibit. The museum showcases not just horse racing but equestrianism in general, with the oldest objects from the 17th century.
- 2 Käthy's Memorial Stone (Käthyn muistomerkki) (at the Equine College). The memorial stone, designed by Jyrki Sailo, was erected in 1991 in honor of Käthy (1934–1953), Marshal C. G. E. Mannerheim's last horse.
