Zahamena National Park [formerly dead link] is in the Toamasina Province of Madagascar. It's one of the six national parks making up the UNESCO World Heritage site Rainforests of the Atsinanana.

[edit]The landscape is very mountainous, ranging from 254–1560 metres.
Flora and fauna
[edit]Zahamena National Park is particularly famous for its birdlife — it hosts 112 bird species, 67 of which are endemic to Madagascar. The park is a habitat for the threatened Madagascan serpent eagle and the critically endangered indri (one of the largest living lemur species).

[edit]The national park is about 200 km northwest of the capital Antananarivo (as the crow flies). The closest towns are Amparafaravola, Ambatondrazaka and Toamasina.
Fees and permits
[edit]Entrance fees are the same for all of Madagascar's most-visited national parks, with a portion of the fee generally shared with the local communities in an effort to promote conservation. Guide fees are an additional charge. Fees are accurate as of October 2014:
- 1 day: 25,000 Ar per person
- 2 days: 37,000 Ar per person
- 3 days: 40,000 Ar per person
- 4 days: 50,000 Ar per person
- Malagasy nationals: 1,000 Ar per person per day.
- Children of any nationality: 200 Ar per child per day.
