Anyang (안양) is a city in the southern part of Gyeonggi Province, and one of the satellite cities of Seoul. It serves as the central hub of the Anyang region, which also includes Gunpo and Uiwang. Once known as a major industrial city, it has since shifted toward a knowledge- and service-based economy.
The Pyeongchon New Town area is also famous for its strong emphasis on education. It has the highest concentration of private academies in Gyeonggi Province, and local schools consistently achieve high admission rates to prestigious special-purpose high schools nationwide.
Anyang is bordered by Uiwang to the east, Gwangmyeong, Siheung, and Ansan to the west, Gunpo to the south, and Seoul’s Geumcheon and Gwanak districts as well as Gwacheon to the north.
