You can check the original Wikivoyage article Here

Crewe is a former railroad town in Central Virginia, a sister town to Crewe, England.

    Get in

    [edit]

Crewe is best accessed by road, with US-460 running through the middle of town and US-360 just to its north. Route 49, which extends into North and South Carolina, offers access to Buggs Island Lake.

    Get around

    [edit]

Crewe can be traversed by car or on foot, with an extensive albeit aging sidewalk system. Residential streets are safe for bicyclists. The Blackstone Area Bus System also offers bus service on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for a $1 fare.

    • Crewe Railroad Museum, 100 Virginia Avenue, +1 434 645 9868. Sa 10AM-4PM, Su 1-4PM. A small train museum commemorating Crewe's history as a railroad town.

    Do

    [edit]

The local library sometimes offers a book club, board games, and yoga classes.

    Outdoor Recreation

    [edit]

Fishing and a nature trail are available at the (Nottoway) Falls off of Route 49. Locals will swim in the waters below the dam, though they can be perilous due to slick algae and water moccasins.

Twin Lakes State Park, 15 minutes west of Crewe, offers fishing, camping, swimming, a nature trail, a playground, and kayaking. Two picnic shelters are available for reservation for private events.

    Culture

    [edit]
    • Modern Woodmen of America, 811 Second Street. A fraternal society with live music and dancing on Saturday night.
    • In Town Art, 118 W Carolina Avenue, +1 434 321 2328. An art gallery and adjoining consignment shop, In Town Art also hosts art classes.

    Buy

    [edit]

Crewe has two florists and a consignment shop, and no grocery stores. Vegetables are available seasonally at a produce stand in the Super Dollar parking lot or at Sunny Slope Orchard past Burkeville on US-360. Meat is available at Meat & Greet in Burkeville. Most residents travel to Farmville or Blackstone for groceries.

    Eat

    [edit]

Crewe has a handful of fast-food options and independent restaurants.

    • Dine N Crewe, 111 E Carolina Avenue. A small diner open a few days a week for lunch.
