[edit]Farmville is most easily accessed by car. Two major US highways, US-460 and US-15, have a concurrency around Farmville, with their business routes meeting downtown. US-460 allows access west towards Lynchburg and Roanoke, and east to Petersburg and Virginia Beach. Just east of Farmville is Route 307, connecting US-460 to US-360 for travelers bound to and from Richmond. Branching off from US-15 in neighboring Dillwyn is Route 20, which provides access to and from Charlottesville. US-15 allows access from a number of neighboring towns, as well as Buggs Island Lake and the Raleigh-Durham and Northern Virginia metro areas.
By bus
[edit]The Farmville Area Bus system offers limited service to and from Prospect and Pamplin on its Green Line, and Green Bay and Meherrin on its Orange Line. Fare is $1.
The Greyhound bus line, for which some signage still exists, is defunct.
Via High Bridge Trail
[edit]The High Bridge Trail runs from just west of Burkeville through Farmville, and on to Pamplin. High Bridge Trail State Park is open to pedestrians as well as people on bike and horseback from dawn to dusk. Access is free, though a parking fee is charged.

[edit]The easiest way to get around Farmville is by car. Street parking downtown is metered, though municipal lots are located on the corners of North Main and West Second Streets, at South and East Second Street, and at the Farmer's Market.
By bus
[edit]Farmville is served by the Farmville Area Bus system, which operates three in-town bus lines and two rural lines. The Blue Line is most useful for getting around town, and runs year-round Monday through Saturday. The Express Line and Campus Direct lines are catered towards Longwood University students, though the Express Line can still be useful for traveling between downtown and the shopping centers located to the south. Fare is 25 cents for the general public, and free for children 6 or younger, seniors 60 or older, and Longwood University students with ID.

[edit]- 1 Robert Russa Moton Museum, 900 Griffin Blvd.. The Moton Museum is a historic site and museum at the site of the former segregated Robert Russa Moton High School. In 1951, a group of African-American students led by Barbara Rose Johns struck in protest of poor conditions at the school. Their case was taken up by the NAACP and absorbed into Brown v. Board of Education.
- 2 Longwood University, 201 High Street. Longwood University, founded in 1839, is a public university in downtown Farmville. It is the third-oldest public university in Virginia and has a rich history as a teachers' college and founding home of four sororities.
- 3 Hampden-Sydney College. Founded in 1775, this college is America's tenth oldest and is one of the few all-male colleges in the country.
Farmville has historical significance, being Virginia's first two-college town, the site of the Robert Russa Moton High School student strike against school segregation, and a stop on General Robert E. Lee's retreat from Union forces before his surrender in nearby Appomattox
The old Farmville Train Station is along High Bridge Trail, adjacent to Three Roads Brewery. It can be reserved for private events such as weddings.
The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts (LCVA) is downtown, on the corner of Main and Third Streets. The museum has contemporary, international, local, and children's art along with visiting exhibits.
The local music scene was dealt a great blow by the COVID-19 pandemic, though live music can be seen at several of Farmville's bars and restaurants.
Do
[edit]The High Bridge Trail runs through downtown Farmville and is open daily dawn til dusk to pedestrians, bicyclists, and equestrians. Bike rentals are available at The Outdoor Adventure Store.
Fishing is possible in town at Wilck's Lake and on the Appomattox River. Additionally, the Sandy River Reservoir and Briery Creek Lake are roughly ten and twenty minutes away, respectively.
Twin Lakes State Park, 20 minutes south of Farmville, also offers fishing along with camping, swimming, a nature trail, playground, and kayaking. Two picnic shelters are available for reservation for private events.
Sandy River Outdoor Adventures in nearby Rice offers a ropes course, kayaking, and glamping.
Buy
[edit]Farmville has numerous shops downtown, including boutiques and a pawn shop. Groceries are available at the local Food Lion, Walmart, and Pineview Bulk Food and Deli.

- The Fishin' Pig, 1807 South Main Street, ☏ +1 434 223 3287. A local restaurant known for its barbecue and seafood, The Fishin' Pig was established in Farmville in 2012 and now has locations in Waynesboro and Norfolk.
- Charley's Waterfront Cafe, 201 Mill Street, ☏ +1 434 392 1566. Charley's Waterfront Cafe has a good selection of American offerings, beer, and wine. The restaurant is in a renovated tobacco warehouse and has a deck overlooking the Appomattox River.
- Bandidos Tacos & Cantina, 100 High Street (down Main Street from Longwood University and the Weyanoke), ☏ +1 434 392 3032. Bandidos is a Mexican restaurant and bar. Among other things, Bandidos offers the uniquely Virginian white sauce (salsa blanca) with its chips.
