    Forsyth is a town in southeastern Montana. In 2020, about 1,600 people lived here. It is located on the southern bank of the Yellowstone River.

    Understand

    The town is split by the railroad tracks with about ⅓ on the street where the interstate exits are located. Three streets have railroad crossings to reach the rest of the town: Hwy 12, 10th Ave (near the Town Pump), and Slaughterhouse Rd (directly off the east I-94 exit).

    Get in

    Forsyth is on I-94 with two exits, #93 and #95. It can also be reached on Hwy 12.

    There are no commercial flights or passenger trains servicing Forsyth. There is bus service by Rimrock Stages. The nearest large airport is Billings and another airport is in Miles City.

    There is no taxi service for Forsyth. You will need a vehicle to get around.

    • County Courthouse (1200 Main St), built in 1913 by the well known Link & Haire architectural firm from Montana.
    • Downtown Historic District, featuring several buildings constructed before 1930. Several local residences are on the National Register of Historic Places as well. The city website[dead link] has a walking tour brochure.
    • Bob Watts Murals - a growing collection of large murals on Main Street buildings, all by resident artist Bob Watts[dead link].
    • Rosebud County Pioneer Museum, 1300 Main St, +1 406 346-7551. Collections from area founding families, includes a steam engine and various farm implements. Free.

    • Agate hunting along the shore of the Yellowstone is a popular activity.
    • Evergreen Lanes, 1601 Front St, +1 406 346-7712, . Bowling alley. Also has good food, not just pizzas.
    • Forsyth Country Club, 47 Smith Creek Rd, +1 406 356-7710. 9 holes, built in 1927, designed by Leonard Friez.
    • 1 Rosebud East recreation area (I-94, exit 95, NW into Forsyth, 0.5 mile north on 15th street), +1 406 234-0900, . Boat ramp onto the Yellowstone. Trails along the river area. Campsites and picnic areas. (There is also an East Rosebud site in Montana, so don't get confused between the two).
    • Rosebud-Treasure County Fair, County Fairgrounds (near the intersection of N. 16th Ave and Fair Ground Rd)), +1 406 346-2144, . Third weekend in July. Carnival, exhibits, free entertainment, name entertainment. Entrance is free. Evening performance tickets vary..

    • 2 Top That Eatery, 983 Front St, +1 406 346-7825. Breakfast pastries, soup and sandwiches, pizzas. Take out available.

    All local bars are on the same street in a 3 block span. There are pool tables, shuffleboard, burgers. If one isn't your style, it's easy to walk to the next one.

    Cattle Brand Coffee is a drive-thru espresso stand on Front St.

    • Castle Rock Lake (take I-94 west to Colstrip, go south on Hwy 39, sign for lake plainly marked), +1 406 748-3326. 5AM-10PM. 35 miles away. Fishing, picnic area, playground, horseshoes, 2½ mile path around lake to walk or bike, 3.2 mile hiking trail free.
    • Range Riders Museum, 435 I-94 business loop (on I-94 east take exit 135 into Miles City, museum on the left in 2 miles), +1 406 232-6146. Apr–Oct: 8AM-5PM, closed Tu. 45 miles east.
