Götene is a town in Västergötland in Sweden. The town itself has around 5,000 inhabitants, with around 13,000 in the municipality. The Kinnekulle table mountain overlooks lake Vänern and the flat farmlands.

Get around
[edit]The most practical way to get around the settlements is by driving. Kinnekulle is a gratifying location for hiking.

[edit]- 1 Götene church (Götene). Contains a relic of Helena of Skövde.
- 2 Falkängen. Worker quarters from the 19th century.
- 3 Flyhov. A rock carving (hällristning) from the Bronze Age, around 1,000 BC.
- 4 Kinnekulle. The view over Vänern, the largest lake of Europe outside Russia, is spectacular from the mountain top.
- 5 Husaby kyrka. Has one of the oldest and most remarkable churches in Sweden, built about 1090-1130. Near the church is a spring where the king was baptized in year 1008, the breakthrough of the christianization of Sweden.
- 6 Källby runestones. A collection of Iron Age artifacts. The older runestone is pagan; the younger one is Christian.
- 7 Skälvum Church.
- 8 Tredingstenarna.
- 9 Råbäck Stonemasonry.
- 10 Aranäs. A medieval castle ruin.
- 11 Sigrid Storråda. A Viking ship built after a real one found in Norway. It offers public trips a couple of times every summer, and can also be chartered.
