Drained by the Red, Calumet and Outaouais rivers, this locality is a hotbed of resorts and recreational tourism activities in the foothills of the Laurentians. Water sports (canoeing, kayaking, rafting) on the Rouge River are well known. Visitors can stay in particular at the Halte des Sept-Soeurs campsite or at the Hôtel Villégiature Lac Carling holiday complex. In addition, boating on the Ottawa River is very popular.

[edit]It has two boroughs: Grenville (including the hamlets of Grenville Bay, Marelan, Rawcliffe and Carlin) and Calumet (including the hamlets of Pointe-aux-Chênes, Avoca, Bell Fall, Ravington, Lake Keatley). The territory of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge encloses half the village municipality of Grenville which is located to the south-east, that is to say at the foot of the Long-Sault bridge which spans the Ottawa River leading to Hawkesbury. In the northwest of the municipal territory, the [Ppineau Lake]turns out to be a centre of resorts nd recreational tourism activities.
History
[edit]The name Grenville evokes the memory of George Grenville, a British politician. The toponymic designation of the municipality derives from the former township of Grenville, from one of the two previous municipalities amalgamated into the current municipality, as well as the name of the Red River which crosses the territory from north to south.
The municipality of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge's motto is "De coeur et de nature" (Heart and nature).
Geography
[edit]Grenville-sur-la-Rouge is located on the north shore of the Ottawa River, between Grenville Bay and the limits of the municipality of Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours.
