Lubao is a town in southwestern Pampanga. It is the gateway to Bataan and Zambales provinces.
Understand
[edit]Lubao is one of the oldest municipalities in Pampanga, having been established in the 1570s. A lowland town along the extensive delta of the Pampanga River, its name is derived from the Kapampangan term lubo which means low or sunken.
In modern Philippine history, Lubao is best known for being the bastion of the Macapagal dynasty, a political family that began with Diosdado Macapagal, nicknamed the "Poor Boy from Lubao" who became President of the Philippines from 1961 to 1965, and continued with his daughter, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who became the first female vice president of the Philippines from 1998 to 2001 and the second female president of the Philippines from 2001 to 2010.
Get in
[edit]From Manila, take the San Fernando exit along the North Luzon Expressway leading to the Gapan-Olongapo Road, which becomes Jose Abad Santos Avenue (JASA) westwards from San Fernando. Follow the signs leading to Olongapo, passing through San Fernando, Bacolor and Guagua before reaching Lubao.
From San Fernando, there are jeepneys servicing Lubao.
Get around
[edit]Tricycles are the main form of transportation between barangays, especially as Jose Abad Santos Avenue bypasses downtown Lubao.
