Murjek is a small village in Norrbotten County in northern Sweden, in the municipality of Jokkmokk. It has train connections from the coast, from southern Sweden and from Narvik in Norway, and is thus a transportation hub. It lies 9 km south of the Polar Circle.

[edit]The village has a few dozen inhabitants, down from about 400 until the mid 1960s.
Get in
[edit]Murjek is on the Malmbanan railway between Narvik in Norway and Luleå on the Swedish coast. All passenger trains stop here, including night trains from Stockholm to Narvik, trains between Narvik and Luleå and regional trains between Luleå and Kiruna.
There are buses from the municipal centre Jokkmokk 60 km away.
Murjek is on road BD 810, which starts in Vuollerim on road 97 between Jokkmokk and Boden.

In addition to a hostel with restaurant, the hembygdsgård houses a school museum, a small library and a home help office. Also camping and rental cottages, sauna and self-service laundry.
