Understand
[edit]Nguru was founded in the 15th century and later became part of the Bornu kingdom. The town has a long history of being a strategic location between the Hausa states and Bornu. Today, Nguru is a major collecting point for gum arabic and also ships peanuts, cotton, meat, hides, and skins by rail.
The town has a variety of landscapes, including the protected Hadejia-Nguru wetlands and the "Sand Dunes" semi-desert area. The climate is warm and dry for most of the year, with the rainy season between August and December.
