    Portalegre is a city and municipality in Alto Alentejo, Portugal.

    Portalegre (pohr-tuh-LEH-gr(ih), /puɾ.tɐ.ˈɫe.gɾɨ/) municipality has 24,930 residents (2011). It is the capital of Portugal's least-populous district.
