Sa Pobla Voyage Tips and guide

You can check the original Wikivoyage article Here

Sa Pobla is a town in the Raiguer region of Mallorca. It's agricultural and in 2024 had a population of 14,600.

Understand

[edit]

Sa Pobla in Catalan or La Puebla in Spanish means "the town", more specifically La Puebla d'Uialfás. "Huyar Alfaz" meaning "water of the meadows" was a large farmstead here in Moorish times, and the settlement grew up around it from 1230 after the island's conquest by James I of Aragon. As the name implies, it's on a well-watered agricultural plain, with limestone aquifers and run-off from the nearby Serra de Tramuntana. It urbanised from the 19th century and became better connected by road and rail. Wine production is now a significant industry; tourists flash past on the highway and seldom venture into town.

Get in

[edit]

Sa Pobla is 48 km northeast of Palma: follow Ma-13.

TIB buses follow the main roads:

  • Bus A32 is direct from the airport, daily every 50 min, heading to Alcudia and Can Picafort. It only stops at Sa Pobla if booked the day before; else change at Inca.
  • Bus 301 from Palma is hourly, taking 40 min via Inca. It continues to Pollença and Port de Pollença.
  • Bus 302 from Palma is every 20-30 min. It continues to Alcúdia and Can Picafort.
  • Bus 314 runs from Inca six times a day via Búger and Campanet.

Train T2 runs hourly from Palma, taking 50 min via Inca. Change at Inca for Manacor.

1 Estació Sa Pobla is the bus station and train terminus, south edge of town.

You might be waiting awhile at Plaça des Tren, the original downtown terminus. The railway was axed in 1981, and when it was restored from 2000 it was impractical to complete the last section so the line terminates at the ring road.
