As my merger has been reverted, I would like to make my case here to merge Soazza into this page.
Soazza does in my opinion not satisfy the criteria for its own article according to WV:SLEEPTHERE. I tried looking whether there is any accommodation in Soazza and found the following:
- There seemed to have been a Hotel Al Cacciatore at some point, however I cannot find much information on it. It is not visible on streetview and one of the google reviews says 'does not exist any more'.
- I found mention of a Hotel Soazzo with a Facebook page, however I can't find any reviews or anything on this, so I'm a bit sceptical on including that.
- The [1] website of the town of Soazza doesn't mention any hotel in the 'tourism' or the 'economic' section, and they don't fail to mention the local painter and electrician.
- I tried to find alternative accommodation, but so far I couldn't find anything.
Lostallo on the other hand has a hostel with a website and some reviews indicating that it actually exists.
In my opinion we have two options here:
- Merge both articles into this one. This makes sense, as Lostallo satisfies the criteria for an article, whereas Soazza does not. I don't think the number of currently available listings should be a gauge to decide which one gets merged, as both articles are very sparse, this is more likely an indication of missing information than an actual lack of attractions.
- Merge both articles into a new article spanning the whole Misox valley. This would make sense as this is a relatively sparsely populated area.
Any inputs on this? Drat70 (talk) 02:27, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
- I don't think that "can you sleep there" has to be taken quite so literally. Soazza is the sort of place where you could find an hotel, reinforced by the former hotel - and the single sleep listing that we have would be a reasonable 5km away. At present we have three listings in Soazza (and I think that the church is the only thing readers will go looking for), and one in Lostallo (or rather nearby) which is why I suggested merging in this direction. Whichever way we go, the merged article should combine the info from both - listings, get in etc. AlasdairW (talk) 20:59, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
- I don't think an article that is sparse on lisitings can be justified in this region. This is not arctic Canada where we have to put up with articles having only one "sleep" listing that has severe problems. We can easily merge this several different ways and it makes sense. We can have one article covering the entire valley, we can have one article covering several villages. In short we don't need an article without a sleep listing condemned to perpetual outline status just because a hotel might conceivably have existed in the past or might open in the future. One article for the whole valley
[edit]Have a look at the map, I think it makes sense to have the whole valley covered in one article. What do you think? Hobbitschuster (talk) 00:13, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- I was looking into this when I redid the regions for Graubunden. Basically there are two valleys in the vicinity (see the map on the right). The main Misox valley and the side valley of Calanca. For now we have no destinations in the Calanca valley, so we could either include or exclude that from this article. This is the website of the regional tourism association if someone wants to have a look at what offerings there are.
- Another issue we would have to address is the name of the valley. It goes under either Misox (German), Val Mesolcina or Valle Mesolcina (both Italian). Wikipedia went for w:Val Mesolcina and I think that makes sense as this is an Italian speaking region.
- There is also the San Bernardino pass at the end of the valley. That seems to have a better developed tourism and might be worth its own article down the road. Drat70 (talk) 01:35, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- Anyway, I think it makes sense to group this together as one article, as suggested by Hobbitschuster. If there's no other inputs on this, I'm going to start with this next week or so. Drat70 (talk) 08:32, 16 March 2017 (UTC)
- That's fine. An article for the valley is probably best. (Although now that there are more listings a merger of Soazza and Lostallo would be ok.) AlasdairW (talk) 20:59, 16 March 2017 (UTC)
