What's wrong with this article, and how to remedy it

[edit]

Wikivoyage has a policy of avoiding too many photos. This policy is not usually invoked, because including thumbnails of beautiful, illustrative photos on Wikimedia Commons is probably one of the more attractive features of Wikivoyage's membership in the Wikimedia family. However, I think this article really has so many photos that they are distracting and overload both the text and the reader's senses. In particular, when editors are tempted to center- or left-justify photos because there are so many of them, that's an obvious sign of getting carried away with thumbnail use.

I would suggest deleting about 1/3 of the thumbnails in this article. What this article really needs is practical information for the visitor. There's no content in "Get around", and "Eat", "Drink", "Sleep" and "Connect" are all very cursory and not fully usable.

Moreover, the listings in "See" are overly long, and none of them is in a listing template. To make the listings user-friendly, they all need to be listified (put into templates), and that also means including practical information like street address, latitude/longitude (see Wikivoyage:Geocoding), basic directions for how to get there from elsewhere in town, hours and fees, if any.

As it stands, this is not really a Wikivoyage-style article, nor is it a Usable article, so it would be best for the editor who's been adding all the photos and long descriptions of sights, and anyone else who knows this town, to actually write a travel guide. There are other places on the Internet where a bunch of photos with descriptions of the places would be more than sufficient; this is not one of them. I would like to add that I could really use help with patrolling this article, to keep it from going even further out of compliance with Wikivoyage guidelines. Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:33, 3 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
User:Naintours has been very helpful in adding many images to Wikimedia Commons (and, not that it matters, to Wikitravel). Although some of the images were not taken by him (and may, consequently be wrongly described in terms of their licensing) we do desperately need more contributors from this part of the world. Much of the article with the same name at Wikipedia is based on words contributed by User:Naintours. Understandably in view of all the effort he has put in, User:Naintours feels he is due some reward by way of a bit more latitude than would normally be the case in terms of our policies (and especially our Tour Listings policy). The potential difficulty is that we may have reached the point with this article where there is a potential conflict of interest for User:Naintours; if he adds to much detail - especially as regards the nitty-gritty detail of what to see and do in Na'in - he may perceive that as weakening the attractiveness for travellers of actually hiring him as a local guide. --Ttcf (talk) 03:45, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
I would say that merely by presenting this city as a very attractive destination, he greatly increases the possibility that a reader might use his services, even without listing his tour in violation of Wikivoyage's tour listing guidelines. Though if, for example, he offers camel rides or river trips, those things would be considered "value-added" under WV definitions and could be listed.
But I'm concerned by what you say about licensing. I hope that none of the images on this page are being posted in violation of the photographer's copyright. If we have real doubts about that, we will unfortunately have to delete all images without very clear copyright status, which might at worst be every single one of them — and that would be terrible. User:Naintours, can you please clarify whether you or someone else who consented to CC-by-SA copyleft or a something compatible took the images you have posted on this page?Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:47, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

" he offers camel rides or river trips, those things would be..." Woooavv Man you are totally confused the city of Na'in with Varzaneh. there is No river in Na'in and no camel to ride. it's in the Wikitravel and not here. the aithor of Varzaneh is someone else. NOT ME Naintours (talk) 21:34, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

I said if you offer those things, they would be considered "value added" under this site's tour listing policy. They were just examples. I don't know Na'in, as you said. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:43, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

No these are my Images and i do not vioate any copyright. Naintours (talk) 13:38, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Wonderful. Thanks for confirming that. :-) Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:46, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

and remember that entire of the content and has been added to the wiki before i participate is mine which is copyright free. i wrote the article with my broken English and an American friend edited that.

just look at the cities near by Na'in:

    https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Kashan

    https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Aran_va_Bidgol

    Yazd province is almost empty:

    https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Yazd

i made Na'in the city with more contents and photo (latter one is not important)compare to the cities around it.

of course there should be motivation to do that. tours or whatever motivates me to put such an effort to complete the page. i'll be happy to go forward along with the Wiki guideline. please help me and be patient to help me. Remedy this article and help me to participate this remedy Thank you. Naintours (talk) 14:35, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

I am happy to help with editing. Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:56, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

something to add i can claim that 99% of the photo and contents that share through the internet about Na'in by the Iranians are my product. for example i distribute my photos on Flcker with free copyright and and anyone can modify them or use them commercially. Curation of images

    [edit]

Wikivoyage has a policy of avoiding excessive use of images, yet the number of thumbnails on this page always grows back every time after I prune it, so that not only is there an unbroken stream of images on the right side of the page, but there are two or more that at least partially go past the end of the article. Could someone please choose the 4, or at the most, 5 most interesting images, spread them around the article, make sure they don't end up extending below the end of the page, and then could people please help patrol this article to prevent the images from proliferating like uncontrolled weeds once again? There's a reason why Wikivoyage articles have a link to the analogous Commons category: So that anyone who wants to look at photos beyond the sample we give them has a convenient place to go. This is a travel guide, not an exhaustive repository of images. Let's please help keep it that way.
