Major edit nedded

[edit]

This reads like a combination of an encyclopedia or almanac entry and lots of cut and pasted publicity. This article needs a major edit job. I wish I had the time, but maybe one of you does.

I agree. I've added a {{style}} banner to let people know that this article needs some TLC. You can also add it to Project:Articles needing attention. Thanks! (WT-en) Majnoona 08:17, 27 April 2006 (EDT)

Thanks, Majnoona. I've added the article to the list of articles needing attention.

Much of it is copyvio cut and paste from the city gov't site, e.g. all the stuff on universities, and the children's museum section. http://www.cityofutica.com/Entertainment/Attractions/Children%27s+Museum+.htm I've edited out some of that. (WT-en) Pashley 20:07, 15 September 2006 (EDT)

I've just reformatted a few sections and edited out some of the extra info about colleges and events. Still has copyvio issues and needs lots of work. (WT-en) WTDuck2 07:58, 23 May 2007 (EDT)

Cleaned out a bunch more and rearranged things a bit to be closer to template. I'm wondering if the education section can be deleted entirely? It's probably not of interest to the average traveller... (WT-en) WTDuck2 11:14, 23 May 2007 (EDT)

We have an optional section called "Learn" that covers educational opportunities for travelers. Colleges with foreign-admissions programs would be appropriate; community colleges would not. See Project:Where you can stick it for this kind of question. - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 11:27, 23 May 2007 (EDT)
Thanks! I hadn't noticed that the huge city template had extra sections... (WT-en) WTDuck2 08:09, 25 May 2007 (EDT)

I think Utica might now be okay to remove from Project:Articles needing attention. Content can still be improved, but the style is much better and most if not all of the copyvio has been rewritten. Any thoughts/opinions from anyone else? (I'm rather new and don't want to make that judgment myself...) (WT-en) WTDuck2 08:50, 25 May 2007 (EDT)

    Disambiguitation page needed

    [edit]

There's also a place in Michigan with Utica, also. How do I make a disambiguitation page? - (WT-en) CurvyEthyl 17:04, 26 October 2010 (EDT)

If the town in Michigan is a tiny place, add :For the town in Michigan, see Utica (Michigan) as the first line of this article, then create your new article at Utica (Michigan). That sort of "hatnote" disambiguation exists for London as it has an Ontario namesake. If the two were the same size, move this page to Utica (New York), make the new page as Utica (Michigan) and then edit the redirect left behind at Utica to list == United States of America == * Utica (Michigan) * Utica (New York) {{disambig}}. Niagara Falls does something like this. K7L (talk) 18:28, 5 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
The metric is not size of the community, but how well known the primary usage is. If this Utica is much better known than any other Uticas, then this Utica retains the base name. See Wikivoyage:Naming conventions#Disambiguation. LtPowers (talk) 01:52, 6 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
In this case, the result would likely be the same as Utica MI (pop 4750) is going to be far less known than Utica NY (pop 62000). NY would be primary. K7L (talk) 02:03, 6 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

    Rome, New York
