Tanza Voyage Tips and guide

Tanza is a town in Cavite. A coastal settlement along the shores of Manila Bay, it is at the limit of the urban sprawl of northern Cavite and contains some beaches and sights of historic importance.

Understand

[edit]

Formerly known as San Cruz de Malabon, Tanza was originally part of San Francisco de Malabon (now General Trias) and was settled as part of extensive pastoral landholdings created during the Spanish era. The area saw some of the major battles of the Philippine Revolution against Spain from 1896 to 1897 and briefly hosted the revolutionary government of General Emilio Aguinaldo. Its current name was adopted in 1914.

The town underwent extensive urbanization beginning in the 1980s, resulting in the eastern part of town becoming integrated into the urban sprawl originating from Metro Manila, albeit physically separated from neighboring General Trias and Rosario by the Cañas River. Its southern hinterlands have been taken over by middle-class gated subdivisions. Despite this, Tanza retains a sizeable small-scale fishing fleet along Manila Bay and beach resorts in its western shores leading to Naic.

Get in

[edit]

Antero Soriano Highway passes through the southern outskirts of downtown Tanza. It is also the terminus of a road running directly north from Tagaytay, passing through Mendez, Indang and the provincial capital, Trece Martires. Both roads converge at the junction next to SM Tanza.

Buses bound for Ternate from Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) and Lawton in Metro Manila ply Antero Soriano Highway, from where transfers to Tanza proper via jeepneys and tricycles can be made, usually at the junction next to SM Tanza. An alternate mode of transport is through the baby buses, minibuses and jeepneys that ply the Bacoor-Naic route along Antero Soriano Highway and the jeepneys along Tanza-Trece Martires Road.
